Serap Arslan Tomas

She completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Social Work at Hacettepe University in 2000 and continued her academic career at the same faculty. In 2004, she earned her master’s degree at Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work, with her thesis titled Family–State Relations During Earthquakes: A Study on the Nature of Policies and Practices. She received her PhD from Ankara University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work, with her dissertation titled An Examination of the Psychosocial Service Needs After Occupational Accidents Within the Framework of the Empowerment Approach. With over 20 years of experience in her professional life, she has conducted academic and professional work in the fields of humanitarian aid, disaster, emergency, crisis, migration, trauma, disaster management, social cohesion, psychosocial services, education management, curriculum development, module preparation, implementation, reporting, and assessment and evaluation. She has served in various capacities including consultant, specialist, unit manager, project manager, team leader, international delegate, acting director, and director. She has authored numerous articles, book chapters, conference papers, and educational development and implementation works based on her projects. Since 2001, she has taken part in the disaster management process—including preparedness, response, recovery, reconstruction, and risk reduction—at the central coordination level and in field teams during numerous domestic and international disasters and emergencies. Her domestic missions have included the Marmara, Afyon, Bingöl, and Van earthquakes; Batman flood; İzmir traffic accident; Mardin violence incident; Anafartalar and Güngören terror attacks; and Soma, Ermenek, and Zonguldak mining disasters. She has also participated in international operations such as the Indonesia and Sri Lanka earthquakes and tsunami, the Pakistan earthquake, and humanitarian efforts in Georgia. Since 2013, she has served as a part-time lecturer at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Hacettepe University, appointed by Türk Kızılay. She previously worked as the Director of Curriculum and Instructional Programs Development and currently serves as the Senior Specialist in Education Strategies and Program Development within the Türk Kızılay Academy Directorate.
