Hilal-i Ahmer Magazine – Vol. 4
Kızılay was founded in 1868 under the name “Society for Aiding and Assisting the Wounded and Sick Soldiers,” and from 1877 onward, it operated as the Ottoman Hilal-i Ahmer Society, carrying out significant health and humanitarian aid activities during both wartime and peacetime. Today, it continues to uphold this mission both in Türkiye and around the world.
The Society published a periodical titled Türkiye Hilal-i Ahmer Magazine to inform the public. This publication became an important historical source of the time by documenting the health issues, social services, and the organization’s efforts during wartime.
With this work, the magazine has been transcribed into the Latin alphabet and made accessible to modern readers and academic circles. Through this publication, Kızılay’s healthcare services, its sacrifices during wars, donation campaigns, efforts in health education, and activities in international diplomacy—from the final years of the Ottoman Empire to the early Republican period—have been recorded and preserved.
